Preparation for High-Wage Jobs is Available During High School to Teens in Porter County and Hobart

pcctclogoHigh school students may choose from more than 30 half-day programs at the Porter County Career and Technical Center, 1005 N. Franklin St., Valparaiso, and other sites.

The newest potential program for 2013/14 is Aviation Operations. It will be offered at the Career Center to seniors only if there is enough interest.

The class will cover ground school and more for future pilots, aircraft controllers, aviation mechanics and others. It will include up to 18 dual college credits from Vincennes University.

Other current sophomores and juniors might look at everything from Early Childhood Education to Graphic Imaging Technology to Cisco Networking. Most students will have a chance to earn dual college credits while enrolled in a career and technical class.

The next open houses will take place on Thursday, Jan. 24. Most programs will welcome current high school sophomores and juniors from 8 to 9 a.m. Parents are welcome, too.

Schools served by the career and technical programs are Boone Grove, Chesterton, Hebron, Hobart, Kouts, Morgan Township, Portage, Valparaiso, Washington Township and Wheeler High Schools.
