Purdue senior guard E’Twaun Moore was named one of 10 national finalists for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday in a release by the NCAA corporate partner.
An acronym for “Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School,” the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses n the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platforms in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in November. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help determine the winner, with fan votes being combined with coach and media votes to select the winner that will be announced at the 2011 NCAA Final Four in Houston.
Fans are encouraged to vote via seniorCLASSaward.com or on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Facebook fan page through March 20.
A native of East Chicago, Ind., Moore has scored more than 1,900 points in a Boilermaker uniform, and will likely become the fifth 2,000-point scorer in program history this season. He currently ranks second on the team with an average of 18.0 points per game, while also contributing 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Moore was an honorable mention Associated Press All-American and a second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American last season, making him the only active Division I player in 2010-11 to earn both distinctions a year ago. He is an Organizational Leadership and Supervision major.
Moore is Purdue’s career leader in minutes played, and is on track to set the program records for career starts in the next few weeks.
