Retired Teacher Continues to Help Build a Better Duneland

Dan-KeilmanOn Saturday, November 10th retired teacher and principal Dr. Dan Keilman will be participating in the 2012 Duneland Family YMCA Dancing Like the Stars competition with his professional partner Danielle from Duneland Ballroom in Chesterton.

The Y is one of many community organizations Keilman involves himself with. While Keilman is retired, one wouldn't be able to tell by his schedule. He spends most of his time trying to continue as a teacher and principal without a classroom or school. He has found a new world in the Exchange Club, Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Parents as Teachers, Duneland Education Foundation, Duneland Resale, Success by Six, Indiana University Northwest as an adjunct professor, and the Boys and Girls Club. When Keilman isn't dancing like a star his greatest joy is his wife Sharon who is a retired teacher, their four children, and ten grandchildren.

Keilman and his dance partner will be competing against local celebrities Greg Babcock, Lu DeWulf, Jocelyn Hibshman, Christy Jarka, Tom Seely, Lisa McCarthy, and Mike Sutter. Keilman is being sponsored by Duneland Resale and Dr and Mrs. Charles and Brenda Hurst.

The event will take place at Duneland Falls Banquet Center with doors opening at 6:00p.m. with a buffet style dinner and cash bar. The show will begin at 7:00p.m. Tickets are now available for purchase with prices starting at $40. All proceeds from the event will go to the Duneland Family YMCA Financial Assistance Program to help ensure a brighter future for families in Duneland.

Voting for the People's Choice Award is now open. Tickets can be purchased at the Member Service Desk for $5 each. Voting will take place until the end of the evening on November 10th.
