Rittenhouse Village of Valparaiso opened its doors to the community for their Halloween Extravaganza. The long line that anticipated to join in on the ghoulish fun proved the event is well known and loved. Kids of all ages were decked out in various costumes carrying bags prepared for candy.

“There is a lot of ways to enjoy Halloween at Rittenhouse,” Pozdol said. “There is a float station, treat station, nacho station, and a photo booth. Also, kids trick-or-treat at the residents' doors.”

The Extravaganza was jam-packed with enough treats for everyone, but it wasn’t all about the candy and delicious food.

“The residents love the companionship.” Pozdol said. “It gives them a time to connect with families. It’s a joy for the residents to interact with the children.”

According to Karen Anderson, Director of Events and Activities, the Extravaganza helps residents feel nostalgic.

“The residents love to see the kids and have the community come into their home,” Anderson said. “It brings back fond memories for them. It’s a homey feeling to have the kids visit their doors.”

Resident Marian Arndt affirmed Anderson’s statement as she welcomed trick-or-treaters at her door with a gigantic smile. The Extravaganza was all about recollection to Arndt.

“It’s good to recall trick-or-treat. We had five children and those are happy memories,” Arndt said. “I love to see the little ones all dressed up.”

Arndt has only been a resident for 6 months is enjoying her new home and appreciated how Rittenhouse Village organized the event. Residents were told to place an orange pumpkin on their doors if they wanted visitors.

“They set it all up nicely,” Arndt said. “All I had to do was put out my pumpkin.”

The Halloween Extravaganza was a huge success, thanks to the efforts of the staff and visiting families. Alexis Pozdol was thankful for the crowd.

“It’s good to have the community involvement in all the holidays,” Pozdol said. “The residents love it and it’s heartwarming.”
