South Shore Dance Alliance Summer Dance Program to Bring NYC Dance Faculty to the Region beginning July 1

SSDA-NYC-DanceSouth Shore Dance Alliance (SSDA) studio in Griffith, Indiana, is offering summer dance programs for ages 4 and older beginning July 1 and culminating in an end-of-session performance at the program’s conclusion on August 9.

This year’s program will feature instruction in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap from a variety of dance professionals. Mr. Roger Jeffrey—creative director of New York City's dance collective Subtle Changes, former dancer with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, and Juilliard graduate—will be a guest instructor for the first two weeks of the summer program.

This is an example of how life comes full circle,” stated SSDA’s artistic director Larry Brewer. “I first met Roger in August 2008 when he was a choreographer for the Juilliard School’s summer dance program. That was where he met and worked with Briana Robinson, a former SSDA company member who graduated from Wirt-Emerson in 2009 and was accepted into The Juilliard School’s highly competitive dance program that August.”

Fast forward to May 2013—Roger completed choreography for Briana’s senior performance solo, and I watched her receive her undergraduate degree from Juilliard just this past Friday. Those are the success stories I love to be able to tell,” stated Brewer.

SSDA’s summer programs will run July 1 through August 9, 2013 at the SSDA studio at 201 N. Griffith Blvd., Griffith, IN. SSDA Summer Intensive, for dancers ages 10 and up, will run Monday through Friday 9 am to 3:30 pm. SSDA Kid’s Summer Dance Camp, for dancers ages 4 to 9 or older students who are new to dance, will take place from 10 am to 12:30 pm Monday through Thursday. Options are available for part-time attendance as well as for the full six-week session.

Space is limited for the summer programs. For more information or to reserve a space, go to the SSDA website at southshoredance.org, email info@southshoredance.org, or call the studio at 219-513-9368.
