South Shore Line is pleased to announce the cessation of temporary busing between Gary Metro Center and Dune Park stations to be effective April 9, 2024.
Long-term temporary busing substitution between stations has been in effect since February 2022 in order to accommodate the Double Track NWI Project. The culmination of this work and completion of this segment allows for full revenue train service to return to all SSL stations on April 9, 2024.
“We sincerely appreciate passengers’ patience and cooperation as we near the completion of Double Track construction,” said Michael Noland, President of South Shore Line. “Our commitment to convenient and reliable service for our riders has never wavered, and we invite everyone to participate in the grand opening of Double Track service in less than two months.”
Train service will operate using the current schedule implemented in October 2023. All previously relocated station pick-up areas will be returned to their permanent locations, including the newly built Portage/Ogden Dunes and Miller stations.
Updates regarding the post-Double Track train schedule and addition of new trains are forthcoming. We sincerely appreciate passengers’ patience and cooperation as we near the completion of Double Track construction.
The South Shore Line is a commuter rail line operated by the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD) between Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
