SSLC Awarded Two Grants Totaling $20,000

SSLC-72In October, the South Shore Leadership Center was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Lake County Community Fund at Legacy Foundation. This funding will help support a part-time staff member who will focus on building community partnerships for their South Shore Leadership Youth for Community Engagement (SLYCE) program.

SLYCE is a year-long program that empowers region youth to be change agents and prepare them for involvement in their communities through self-awareness and civic engagement.

“Thank you to the Lake County Community Fund at Legacy Foundation for supporting the development of our youth leadership program in such a significant way. Support of our effort to develop leadership skills among our youth will lead to a brighter future for Northwest Indiana,” stated SSLC President & CEO, Keith Kirpatrick.

The Center was also recently awarded a $10,000 grant from the John W. Anderson Foundation to support their leadership programs serving Northwest Indiana youth and adults. The SSLC offers two leadership programs, including SLYCE and Leadership Northwest Indiana (LNI), a one-day-a-month, ten-month program that educates local leaders on the assets and challenges in Northwest Indiana. Over 1,000 region leaders have been through the LNI program. “We want to say thank you to the Anderson Foundation for supporting our efforts to build leadership capacity in the region. This grant supports our organization’s ongoing growth as well as our efforts to continue offering quality leadership programs to our region,” stated Kirpatrick.
