St. Mary Medical Center names Chief Nursing Officer

St. Mary Medical Center announced thatKim Sgouroudis has been promoted to Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Vice President of Patient Care Services. Sgouroudis first joined the hospitals of Community Healthcare System in 1986 as a phlebotomist and has continued to advance professionally in several positions over the years. As CNO, Kim will provide strategic and managerial leadership to the nursing team and the hospital.

Sgouroudis began her healthcare career in Texas. After graduating with a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 2004, she focused on neurology services and became the first stroke coordinator at St. Mary Medical Center. In that role, she was instrumental in the hospital’s achievement as an accredited Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.  For the past six years, Sgouroudis served in a nursing leadership role as the Administrative Director of Patient Care Services, responsible for the Quality Care Coordination Services.

“Kim is a well-respected professional committed to delivering the highest quality patient care across our healthcare continuum,” said Janice Ryba, CEO of St. Mary Medical Center. “She was the obvious choice for this critical role at St. Medical Center.”

Ryba praises Sgouroudis as a compassionate nursing leader with exceptional communication skills, and in depth knowledge of clinical quality, hospital accreditation, and patient safety.  Her record of success, positive work ethic, and ability to collaborate with the entire healthcare team are strengths she brings to her new senior leadership role.

Sgouroudis is earning her master’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University this year with a focus on nursing leadership.

“I believe we are stronger together in living our mission to serve the community,” Sgouroudis said. “I am excited for the opportunity to serve St. Mary Medical Center, our patients and the community in a nursing leadership capacity.”
