State Offers Options for Personal Income Tax Filing

State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) wants to ensure that all Senate District 4 residents are able to obtain the tax forms they need during the 2011 tax season. After the Indiana Department of Revenue recently announced that they will no longer mail individual state income tax forms to taxpayers’ homes, Sen. Tallian said she wants to let Hoosiers know where to obtain the forms they need.

“While electronic filing is faster and often easier, not everyone is able to take advantage of that option,” Sen. Tallian said. “Tax forms will still be available at local libraries and can be mailed to their home upon request.”

Indiana taxpayers are encouraged to file their taxes electronically on the state’s I-File online system on the Dept. of Revenue’s website at www.in.gov/dor. Individual income tax forms are available at public libraries and at the Indiana Dept. of Revenue’s 12 district offices.

Serving Porter and Lake Counties, the Merrillville District Office of the Dept. of Revenue is located at 8368 Louisiana Ave., Ste. A, Merrillville, Indiana, 46410.

Taxpayers unable to access individual tax forms online or from a library or local office may request a booklet by mail by calling the Indiana Dept. of Revenue at 1-317-232-2240.
