You can almost taste it in the air. The school year is nearly over—only 4 days to go. It’s hard to believe that it is truly almost the end of the year. It is a time of very mixed feelings for students and teachers alike. We are all excited that this long 4th quarter without any breaks will soon be finished, but it will be sad to say good-bye to the students. Parents, I’ll let you in on a little secret…for a teacher at Saint Paul Catholic School, her students become part of her extended family, and it’s always difficult to part with family members--even those who might at times tax your patience. Teachers miss their students and when a new school year rolls around it is difficult to see “your” children walking excitedly into another’s classroom.
The students are excited for summer and vacation where days seem to stretch endlessly into the future. Summer days filled with sunshine, family, and friends. The students are ready to clean their desks and lockers and say good-bye to schoolwork. They anticipate the coming new school year and all it has to offer, but for now it is freedom--from teachers and tests and grades. As the days warm up and the workload lessens and finals are officially over, our graduating 8th graders look optimistically to high school life and all the new experiences awaiting them. It’s at an end, but a new beginning is waiting for all of us right around the corner.
May your summer be safe and happy. May your family be blessed with memories of good times spent together. May you and your children return to us in August—rested and ready for a new beginning. We’ll be here waiting for you.
