TCU Insurance offers a variety of insurance coverage with a local atmosphere

“Local people helping local people.”

The TCU Insurance Agency has built the idea of insuring and serving families, individuals, and businesses throughout Indiana and Michigan into their foundation. For Rick Van Es, agency president, this is what makes TCU Insurance different from other companies in the industry. It is the personal touch and shared experiences that create a hometown feel.

“This is what sets us apart from the national companies whose commercials you see on TV,” said Van Es, who has served as president since 2019. “With them, you may have to dial an 800-number to talk to someone who’s not even in the same town or even the same state. These companies may not be familiar with your needs and experiences. Our team builds relationships with our clients, that’s what we’re all about.”

TCU has deep Midwestern roots, serves over 300,000 people, and strives to maximize benefits for its members. TCU Insurance is no exception and uses the same footprint to serve TCU members and non-members in the community, offering four different kinds of insurance—personal, business, life, and senior health insurance—from a variety of carriers.

Personal insurance includes home, auto, renter’s, umbrella, and even pet insurance. Business insurance covers property, liability, and workers' compensation. Life insurance offers many choices for life, disability, long-term care, and more. Senior healthcare insurance, a unique service designed to help seniors cover the expenses that health insurance or Medicaid does not cover, offers supplemental coverage.

With its experience and expertise, TCU Insurance knows the ins and outs of the industry. One thing Van Es recommends for every member and non-member is an insurance review.

“A wise thing to do with your agency, even if you’ve been with them for a while and you are satisfied, is an insurance review, which will thoroughly look at your coverage and the written policies,” Van Es said. “One thing we see, for example, is carriers will take the value of your home and its content and will incrementally increase it every year, or sometimes they won’t increase the value for inflation. That is not always caught by the agent, and you might not be aware unless you’ve read the fine print and all the declarations. You have to rely on your agent to protect you."

"We offer a no-obligation, free insurance review, and we can look at your situation, ask a few questions, then compare it against as many as 12 different companies to see if there is a better price and also a better value to make sure you are protected,” Van Es continued.

With a mission to prepare the people it serves for the future—a mission that TCU Insurance shares with the credit union—the agency anticipates members’ needs and works with them to come up with a plan that works for their goals and ambitions for themselves and their family.

“Let’s say we have a member come in and tell us, ‘I just had a baby, I would like to buy an infant life policy.’ We would work with them to not only build that policy but also we would refer them to speak with someone at TCU about starting a college savings program,” said Van Es. “You can really come to us as a one-stop-shop and we’ll provide you with all the financial services you need to be successful, and insurance is an important part of that.”

TCU has locations around Indiana and Michigan, priding itself on delivering personal service at convenient locations. For more information about the TCU Insurance Agency, visit their website at www.tcuinsurance.com.
