The City of La Porte Activity Center for Older Adults will temporarily move operations to the La Porte Civic Auditorium lower level, starting Monday, September 30.
The change in venue became necessary when the main meeting room utilized by the ACOA at Heritage Place was damaged after a plumbing issue the previous weekend. The space will not be available again for approximately six weeks. The ACOA has been closed since September 23.
With the temporary move to the Civic, all hours and activities will proceed as planned, according to Park Superintendent Mark Schreiber. The only exception is Wednesday, October 9, with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra’s Drayton Family Children’s Educational Concert being held that day.
“While we are disappointed this program has been temporarily displaced, it is very important for our staff to continue providing activities and services for our older residents,” Schreiber said. “Thank you to Civic Director Brett Binversie and his team for accommodating the ACOA operations over the next month or more. And we look forward to seeing our members, and new members, at the Civic beginning next week.”
The ACOA mission is to provide older adults with access to a vibrant community through enrichment opportunities that support their journey of aging. The hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9-11 a.m. Fridays.
This program is made possible thanks in part to support from Health Foundation of La Porte.
