Located in a clear lakeside area, the Lakes of Valparaiso is an apartment community in Porter County that frequently hosts events for its residents.

There were plenty of unique party games to provide entertainment for everyone in attendance. Some of the activities included relay races for filling a bucket with sponge water and carrying a potato between your legs into a bucket between two teams. There was also a randomized corn hole tournament and multiple raffle opportunities to win Starbucks gift cards that were awarded to each member of the winning team in the relay races.

“Every month, we try to have a resident function just to get the people that stay here to interact and to also feel a sense of togetherness,” said Jennifer Coleman, community manager at the Lakes of Valparaiso.

Coleman also says that their summer party generally leads off the summer in past years. This year provided an opportunity for residents at the Lakes of Valparaiso to spend the evening together with people of all ages in the warm weather.

“We always try to cater to all different types of individuals,” Coleman said. “Whether it’s a full family or a lone individual, we try to put on the most enjoyable experience for everybody. We’ll do a variety of events from movie nights to trivia games to find ways to create a fun experience for not only our young residents, but also for the adults in our community.”

Mike Dibari is one person that has appreciated the countless events at the Lakes of Valparaiso. Being a resident for five years, Dibari can never get enough of what each new event has to offer.

“I’ve been to plenty of our events, including the summer party last year as well,” Dibari said. “The events are a great experience overall. Now they have an ice cream truck and Buona Beef. There’s plenty of snacks here too. They continuously do a great job of adding something new each time, and it’s a big reason why I try to come to as many of them as I can.

On top of the snacks and desserts, there was a wide variety of food cooked both in the main lounge area and outside on the grill. Derrick Goad, who’s been working with the Lakes of Valparaiso for the last four months, was one of the cooks for the event. He describes what it was like to help provide for the community at the summer party gathering.

“We’ve made hamburgers, hot dogs, coleslaw, pasta, potato salad, fruit salad and much more,” Goad said. “It’s been a special night for me because this is the first event that I’ve been a part of since being with the Lakes of Valparaiso. It’s a really friendly community that promotes a positive atmosphere personally and I try to create that same feeling for others.”
