Last Friday was a very special day. Not only did we celebrate our first Family Friday of the year, but a special visitor came to the building. Detective Tom Horn of the Valparaiso Police Department came to visit his son Jacob and the middle school students in the morning and later in the day he visited with his daughter Mary’s family group, the Peeps. Detective Horn has come many times to the school to talk to our students.

So, what made it such a special visit and Tom such a special visitor? Mr. Horn is a Staff Sergeant currently serving as a military police officer in Iraq training Iraqi policemen. He was in Valparaiso for a “surprise” visit of 2 weeks. His friends came and picked him up from the airport and brought him to his house at 2 o’clock in the morning, while all the time Mrs. Horn thought he was still in the Middle East taking a 4 day leave. What a wonderful surprise for Monique, T.J., Jacob, and Mary!

Mary’s Family group, the Peeps, was very excited to have Sergeant Horn visit them. Each student was individually introduced. They have been sending monthly cards and gifts to him since last January. There were a lot of cheers, flags, cake-eating and picture taking as the Peeps celebrated their own special peacekeeper.
