The Summer Rhapsody Music Festival Slated as Grand Opening to Downtown Amphitheater

2011-Summer-RhapsodyValparaiso Community Festivals & Events (VCFE) will host The Summer Rhapsody Music Festival as the grand opening to the New Central Park Plaza on Saturday, August 6, 2011. The gates open at 6:30 pm and music will begin at approximately 8 pm. Mayor Jon Costas will introduce the 50 piece Summer Rhapsody Orchestra directed by Miguel Rosario, Artistic Director of Summer Rhapsody. The Orchestra, comprised mostly of professional musicians, will feature American Musical Classics that the entire audience will recognize and enjoy including favorites from West Side Story, Chorus Line, Wicked and others.

Gourmet picnic selections from area restaurants will be available for purchase Saturday evening as well as wine and beer. Outside food or beverage will not be permitted at this free event, however, attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. VIP Reservations are available for Saturday’s event. The VIP option includes a pre-ordered gourmet picnic meal, VIP seating, commemorative blanket and picnic bag. VIP Reservations can be made online at here and are limited to 200 reservations. General lawn seating or purchasing meals at the event does not require a reservation.

An encore presentation will be held on Sunday, August 7 from 3-5pm featuring a limited version of the orchestra and will focus on kid friendly selections.
