Kids Against Hunger is a nonprofit organization with the mission to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to fee starving children throughout the world.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, in partnership with Valparaiso University and the Valparaiso community, is putting together the largest Thrivent packaging event ever! The goal is to package 100,000 meals for kids. 1/3 of the meals will be distributed internationally and 2/3's of the meals will remain locally in the northwest Indiana region and distributed by existing food pantries.
The packaging event will be Saturday, September 19th from 8 to 5pm. We will have 8 packing lines and each line will make 2,100 meals per hour. We are in need of 104 to 120 volunteers per shift, so we need as many volunteers as we can rally. We are looking for volunteers to fill three different shifts:
- 8am to 10:30
- 1:30 to 2pm
- 2:30 to 5pm
Volunteers of all ages measure out soy, dried vegetables, a vitamin/mineral concoction and rice. These ingredients are placed in a bag, weighed and sealed, then packed into boxes. Each meal costs 25 cents. If you are unable to volunteer, please consider making a donation. You may make checks payable to Kids Against Hunger.
