Through many leadership roles, Community Healthcare System’s Jill Conner gives back to the place she calls home

Jill Conner’s responsibilities throughout Community Healthcare System are crucial, immeasurable and comprehensive – words that often are used to describe the services she oversees.

Conner is the administrative director of Neuroscience and Cerebrovascular Services, but that title does not sum up all that she does as a leader for Community Healthcare System. She also oversees Structural Heart Services, the Hybrid Operating Room, Diabetes Center, IV Therapy, and the Congestive Heart Failure Program.

For Conner, a lifelong Northwest Indiana resident, being involved in many facets of healthcare brings her immense joy and satisfaction because it allows her to give back to her community.

“I feel passionate about investing in Northwest Indiana, a community that made me who I am,” she said. “Working where we’re able to build these healthcare programs and change the landscape of care for our corner of the state and those who live and work here is so important and rewarding.”

Conner is part of a team that keeps Community Healthcare System’s reputation as a trusted medical leader at an unparalleled level. Two examples of the team’s work are Community Hospital’s Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center and Joint Commission-certified Advanced Spine Center. Since 2018, the Comprehensive Stroke Center has served the community as the only one in Northwest Indiana. Conner, who oversees these programs, and her team are key reasons why these essential entities are available locally.

“We brought these programs to Northwest Indiana. Before that, they only existed in areas like Chicago and at large academic centers,” said Conner, who has worked for Community Healthcare System for 13 years.

Conner also oversees Neuroscience Transfer Services for Community Hospital. In the event of a neurological emergency, minutes matter. If a patient is at another regional hospital and needs advanced neuroscience care, the transfer service program expedites the process and brings the patient to Community Hospital of care.

“Our transfer service allows for all Northwest Indiana residents to have access to the higher level of neuroscience care that’s not offered at other facilities,” she said.

Conner’s passion for neurology and its capacity to improve patients’ lives inspire her every day.

“Community Hospital is offering academic-style medicine right here in our community for all aspects of neuroscience,” Conner said. “All of our healthcare services and programs have one goal: to provide our patients the best quality of life possible.”

When not at work, Conner enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
