Tina Thomas, a registered nurse in the Emergency Department, is Franciscan Health Michigan City’s November Ambassador of the Month.
The award has been presented by the hospital’s Social and Recognition Committee since 1988 and recognizes employees who exhibit the mission and values of Franciscan Health, which include compassion for those in need, respect for life and the dignity of mankind, wellness and prevention of illness, restoration to health and acceptance of death as the final step toward wholeness. Recipients also have demonstrated courtesy, the proper attitude and enthusiasm for their work.
Thomas, who resides in Michigan City with her husband, Steve (they have three daughters), was nominated for the award by a fellow employee, who said, “Tina exemplifies our Franciscan values in her dealings with patients.”
Asked how she felt about receiving the honor, Thomas said she was overjoyed and happy to be considered and was grateful for the opportunities Franciscan Health has provided.
“I went back to school at 40 years of age (to become a nurse) because I thought I could make a difference. I enjoy coming to work every day because I welcome the challenge and find it rewarding to help people.”
Before being transferred to the Emergency Department, Thomas was a nurse extern in another unit.
In recognition of the honor, Thomas, as are all Ambassador recipients, was honored with a special billboard display for the month, a privileged parking spot, an Ambassador badge holder, a photo on the Ambassador of the Month wall that displays the previous 12 months’ winners, and $150.
