Before the turkey comes out of the oven and the pumpkin pie is devoured, families and friends of Northwest Indiana partake in a Thanksgiving tradition that promotes community-wide health. The 14th annual Turkey Trot, hosted by Porter-Starke Services, attracted 4,000 runners to Valparaiso High School this year. Runners of all ages took to the streets, competing in either the 5K or 10K. Though the race meant something a little different for each runner, the common goal of celebrating the holidays with family was shared by all.

This is the first year that Gary Atherton, Director of Porter Regional Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services Department, did not coordinate his annual EMS Week Breakfast Banquet. It was always a day he dedicated to recognizing the merits of his staff. This time the EMS team spent their morning commemorating their leader, who passed away on January 13, 2016.

Saturday May 14, 2016 kicked off the fourth race in the Explore Duneland series at Dune Acres. Racers bundled up in their gloves, coats, and scarves as they approached the starting line to brave the colder than normal May temperatures. Both children and adults came together in good spirits to partake in this exciting race.
