city-of-valparaisoTrash and Recycling Pick-up Postponed A Second Day, Due to Subzero Weather

The Department of Public Works is postponing trash and recycling services a second time, due to subzero conditions. The new delay means that Monday's trash will be picked up on Wednesday; Tuesday's on Thursday; Wednesday's on Friday; Thursday's on Saturday. The regular schedule will resume on Monday, January 13. "We sent the trucks out this morning to begin their routes, but found that the trucks are not functioning properly these extreme temperatures," said Matt Evans, Public Works Director.

Other reminders from the City of Valparaiso include:

  • The Valparaiso Police Department will be enforcing the parking ordinance, which means that all cars should be removed from city streets until both sides of the street have been plowed from curb to curb. Valparaiso Police will be issuing citations to vehicles that are in violation of this ordinance. City ordinance requires vehicles be removed or vehicle owners risk their vehicles being towed from the street at their expense.
  • The Valparaiso Fire Department asks for residents' help in uncovering fire hydrants to ensure safety in the event of fire. The ChicaGo Dash and V-Line services are working today and City of Valparaiso offices are open for business.
