United Way Day of Caring 2010 Breakfast

day-of-caring-breakfast-2010-2The United Way Day of Caring 2010 kicked off this morning with a fantastic breakfast provided by Strongbow. "Each year, people come out and give of themselves," stated United Way of Porter County President Sharon Kish. This year's theme, "Raise the Bar in 2010," proved true, as over 40 teams volunteered their time to help someone else, with the total impact amounting to $250,000 of volunteer labor in one day, between Porter and Lake Counties.

The Day of Caring began in 2004, with Chicago Title, Tri Kappa, the Valparaiso Noon Kiwanis, and Aspen Photography being some of the first businesses to give their time and participate in helping others. New teams this year include the MOMS Club of Valparaiso, Opportunity Enterprises, Kouts Christian Church, Valparaiso Alliance Club, and One Accord Ministry. Teams were recognized during the breakfast, as a party of Father Kevin McCarthy’s efforts to pump up the volunteers. He led the volunteers in a variety of cheers, creating an energy and light-hearted spirit to start the day off right.
