The United Way of La Porte County's annual golf outing, one of the organization's signature events, returned for its eighth year on Monday at Pottawattomie Country Club in Michigan City. It did not take long for the event to sell out as 144 golfers signed up immediately after registration opened.
The event is so immensely popular not only because of the fun day of golf that participants enjoy, but because of the number of people in the community who support the work of the United Way of La Porte County.
"I'm here because I believe in our cause and our mission of helping those around the county who need a helping hand," United Way Board of Directors Chairman Andy Neal said.
Not only did the golf outing draw many prominent members of the local community, but it also attracted attendees from out of state. Mark Frisch and Jeff Parisi from Beaver Street Fisheries in Jacksonville, Florida took part in the day of golf.
"We love giving back to the communities," Frisch said. "We do a lot with the United Way in Jacksonville, so it's good to give back to this community up here as well and of course have a great day of golf, while giving back and supporting the United Way."
The beautiful Pottawattomie Country Club was the perfect venue for the United Way event.
"We are happy to host the United Way for their annual golf outing," Pottawattomie General Manager Julie Gill said "We enjoy hosting the event and hope they continue to come back year after year."
The businesses that sponsored the golf outing, the community leaders that supported it, the people that put it together and those that attended all have one thing in common. They believe in the mission of La Porte County United Way.
"I just want to thank everyone for coming out and supporting United Way," La Porte Community School Superintendent Glade Montgomery said. "I also serve on the United Way Board of Directors and I'm one of the co-chairs of this year's campaign. It's a tremendous organization and it supports countless agencies and groups within La Porte County."
According to La Porte County United Way Manager of Community Engagement Dave Sisk, the golf outing raised over $40,000.
"This is another great golf outing for the United Way sponsored by Sullair. We've got major sponsors for the event, the Blue Chip Casion & Spa and Hotel & Blank. It's a great day here at Pottawattomie Country Club; they've hosted us again this year and it's just been a lot of fun. The biggest shout out goes to Sullair and Blue Chip for raising the bar once again for this event," Sisk said.
The United Way, Sullair, and The Blue Chip want to thank ALL of their sponsors, players and volunteers that participated in our eighth annual golf outing.
