Diabetes Education classes are offered at St. Catherine Hospital

“These American Diabetes Association certified classes are held from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursdays at the Center for Diabetes, 4321 Fir St., East Chicago. The Spanish classes are held on the second Thursday of the month. You will learn to follow a special diet, exercise, monitor glucose levels, new medication and food substitutions. Moving Forward Stroke Education classes for stroke survivors

Classes are for stroke survivors and caregivers to learn how to prevent future strokes through risk detection and management. This class is a five-part series from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, at St. Catherine Hospital Rehabilitation Center, 4321 Fir St., East Chicago. This program is FREE. Know your risks with Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center Assessments

Learn your risk for heart disease, diabetes or other related medical conditions through a free bilingual American Heart Association Risk Factor calculated assessment. Assessments include cholesterol, blood pressure, hemoglobin A1C and ABI (circulation) screening. No fast is required. You must be 18 or older. Assessments are offered on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-11 a.m. or you can go to Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Clinic at 7217 Indianapolis Blvd., Hammond, IN. Wellness Program (formerly Muscle Strengthening Class) offered at St. Catherine Hospital

This program is a supervised exercise program for the public and those wishing to maintain the benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation. This program is open to adults, 21 years or older. It offers blood pressure monitoring, glucose monitoring, muscle strengthening, toning programs as well as SilverSneakers® for ages 65 and up.
