Upcoming Workshops: Federal Agency Impact and Worker’s Compensation

IndianaChamber_clr.gifTwo upcoming January workshops presented by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce will focus on worker's compensation laws and how Washington impacts your business through agency involvement.

Event details include:

  • Agency Agendas: Washington’s Impact on Your Business, January 20, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Presented by Barnes & Thornburg, this half-day seminar will address changes that the National Labor Relations Board and other Washington D.C. agencies are attempting to put into place, including limitations on an employer’s ability to discipline workplace conduct, limiting your property rights during union organizing, limiting the opportunity to exercise your right to free speech and exempt versus non-exempt status, to name just a few. Seminar speakers are Ken Yerkes and Pete Morse. Cost for Indiana Chamber members: $199; non-members: $229.
  • Indiana’s Worker’s Compensation Conference, January 25, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Worker’s compensation – one of the more confusing workplace topics to understand – is also often abused in the employment world. This daylong workshop will address some of the complications of worker’s compensation, including its relationship to the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and how to decrease your costs through safe work practices. The workshop will also examine the annual Indiana worker’s compensation law update, which includes how to investigate employee worker’s compensation fraud, the evolution of worker’s compensation retaliation claims and administrative best practices regarding worker’s compensation law. This workshop equals one credit toward your Safety Specialist Certificate and one credit toward your HR Specialist Certificate. Cost for Indiana Chamber members: $299; non-members: $329.

Anyone sending three attendees to a seminar may send a fourth for free. The workshops are part of the 2011 Human Resources Training Series, sponsored by FlashPoint.

Both conferences will be held in the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Conference Center at 115 W. Washington Street, Suite 850S in downtown Indianapolis. To register to attend, visit www.indianachamber.com/conferences or call (317) 264-6885 or (800) 824-6885.
