Valparaiso Community Schools Expands School Safety Initiatives

Valparaiso-Community-Schools-Expands-School-Safety-Initiatives-2019Valparaiso Community Schools is expanding school safety initiatives with help from Valparaiso Fire Department and the community.

The school district and fire department have partnered in order to bring Stop the Bleed kits to each school within Valparaiso Community Schools. Valparaiso Fire Department will also provide training to school personnel. The school safety expansion was made possible by generous donations from 1st Source Bank and NIPSCO.

The kits are designed to control life threatening bleeding in emergency and crisis situations. “The goal of this training is to provide our staff with tools and to empower them to help in an emergency situation in or outside of school,” says Dr. Julie Lauck, Superintendent of Valparaiso Community Schools.

The first round of kits will be distributed to the schools throughout the week. Kits will be placed next to fire extinguishers. A white decal with a red plus sign and letter ‘V’ will be placed on the fire extinguisher case to signify a kit is present.
