Valparaiso University, along with 56 other colleges and universities from across the nation, has joined the nationwide #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship program, which began in May 2018 with nine universities. To view the complete list of participants, visit the #YouAreWelcomeHere website.
The #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship program emerged out of the far-reaching #YouAreWelcomeHere social media campaign led by Temple University to welcome and encourage international students to study in the United States. Launched earlier this year by Temple University and eight other U.S. college and university partners, the scholarship program provides financial support to incoming international students.
“Valparaiso University is strongly committed to campuswide diversity and inclusion and proud to be part of the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship program,” said Marci Fradkin, M.A., director of international outreach and admission. “We hope this scholarship will afford students from around the world the opportunity to bring their own unique experiences, beliefs and background to our close-knit community of students, faculty and staff here at Valpo.”
Beginning in fall 2019, Valpo will award annual, renewable scholarships covering a minimum of 50 percent of tuition costs in recognition of select, promising international students dedicated to strengthening the #YouAreWelcome here message. These incoming international students must possess a vision to enhance intercultural understanding and delineate the ways in which they intend to bridge intercultural divides and therefore advance intercultural learning and understanding at Valparaiso University and in their future careers. Talented international students of all academic majors and fields of study are eligible, bringing within reach an outstanding education that these students of promise might otherwise not have the means to pursue.
