The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics announced its annual academic honors on Sunday evening at the department’s Presidential Academic Honors Banquet. President José Padilla recognized 142 student-athletes with Presidential Academic Honors.
Presidential Academic Honors are awarded to student-athletes who have earned a term grade point average of 3.25 or higher for at least two consecutive semesters at Valpo. Valpo Athletics also revealed the department’s Top of the Class Awards, Dean’s Awards, Laurel Award and Team Academic Award.
The Laurel Award is presented to the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. This year’s honor was presented to Kurt Kessen of football.
The Top of the Class Awards are presented annually to graduating seniors with a 3.9 or better cumulative GPA. The Dean’s Awards are awarded to the highest cumulative GPA by a student-athlete in each college.
The tennis program earned the Team Academic Award by posting the department’s highest team GPA for the third consecutive year.
