VCFE Brings Choirs to Valparaiso, Tickets on Sale

By Tina St. Aubin

Two choral groups will be featured during a special series of choral performances at Valparaiso University.

Chanticleer, called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by New Yorker magazine and named 2008 Ensemble of the Year by Musical America, is known for its seamless blend of 12 male voices and its original interpretation of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. The ensemble released “The Mission Road,” a CD and DVD set featuring music from California’s mission period, last fall and was recently inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame.

The Vienna Boys’ Choir was established more than 500 years ago and is known for its exceedingly high vocal standards. Musicians such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Anton Bruckner have worked with the choir, and composers such as Franz Schubert and Jacobus Gallus were themselves choristers. Today, 100 boys between the ages of 10 and 14 are divided into four touring choirs that perform approximately 300 concerts annually across the globe.
