Valparaiso has battled injuries all season long but RB Andrew Kittridge is finally healthy, exploding for three TD runs last week against Portage. RB Stephen Simms has provided a nice complement in the backfield, giving the Vikings an outside threat to complement their inside-the-tackles power game. Valparaiso’s strength on the ground has also loosened things up for QB Paul Andrie, enabling him to throw the ball in more favorable down and distance situations. By pounding it on the ground, Valparaiso can then keep the defense off balance with the aerial attack. The key for Valparaiso however, is still the ball control game. If the Vikings can take time off the clock on long scoring drives and keep the explosive Lake Central offense off the field, it takes a lot of pressure off the defense. But Valparaiso must avoid drive killing turnovers that could give LC great field position. If Valparaiso presents Lake Central with too many opportunities they could be in for a long night. The Vikings must also remember to maintain focus and stay in the game if they do get ahead, as quick Lake Central scores could turn the momentum back their way in a hurry.
