Victory Christian Academy Athletics Roundup: Volleyball vs. Bowman Academy, East Chicago Central

Vs. Bowman Academy

The Victory Christian Academy varsity volleyball team picked up their first win of the season---and one of the biggest in the program's history---on Thursday night as the Lady Lions downed IHSSA opponent Bowman Academy. VCA knocked off the Eagles in four sets (25-9, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22) and improved to 1-1 on the season. Victory overcame a furious comeback from Bowman as well as the raucous Eagle crowd in what may prove to be the most significant win in VCA's history. The Lady Lions will be back in action on September 7 as they take on another public school, East Chicago Central.

The middle school volleyball team was on top of their game on Thursday as well, sweeping past the Bowman middle school team in two sets (25-6, 25-14). Coming off two very tough losses to Calumet Christian and Lakeland Christian---two private school powers---the win could not have come at a better time for the Lady Lions. VCA's middle school team improves to 1-2 on the season and will next host St. Paul's on September 9.

vs. East Chicago Central

The Lady Lions of VCA played the role of David again on Tuesday, downing "Goliath" East Chicago Central in girls JV volleyball. Victory's high school enrollment is a mere 46 students, while ECC boasts 1551 in their high school student body. The win is VCA's second straight against a bigger IHSAA opponent, coming off a thrilling victory last Thursday at Bowman Academy.

VCA was sluggish in the first set, coming out slowly and losing 15-25. Coach Sassman's Lady Lions came to life in the second set however, dropping the Eagles 25-21. In a closely contested third and final set, VCA held on to win 15-13. With the victory, VCA improves to 2-1 on the season. The Lady Lions will play yet another IHSAA team on Thursday as they travel to Demotte to take on Covenant Christian High School.
