Viking Sports Report 2/25 – 3/3/2022

Gymnastics Sectionals

The Lady Vikings scored 113.00 points at Sectionals. Crown Point scored 113.300 points, putting the Vikings at 2nd place in the meet. This was enough to move them on to Regionals! Great job to all of our gymnasts. Below are the individual placements:

  • Vault - Gabi Grisafi - 2nd, Molly Dreher - 7th, Ava Platipodis - 15th
  • Bars - Gabi Grisafi - 1st, Molly Dreher - 6th, Chloe Ochman - 9th, Ione Skafish - 13th
  • Beam - Chloe Ochman - 2nd, Molly Dreher - 6th, Gabi Grisafi - 7th, Ione Skafish - 12th
  • Floor - Gabi Grisafi - 3rd, Molly Dreher - 6th, Chloe Ochman - 12th, Allison Rospond - 19th
  • All-Around - Gabi Grisafi - 2nd, Molly Dreher - 5th

Boys swim state

Great Job to Kyle Seward, Landon Schemel, Trey Nash and George Patterson. These Vikings traveled down to Indianapolis to compete in the State Swimming Finals! Unfortunately, the boys trip ended in the preliminary round, but what an accomplishment! We are so proud of all of you! We can't wait until next year!

  • 200 freestyle relay - 21st place with a time of 3:16.04 - Kyle Seward, Landon Schemel, Trey Nash & George Patterson
  • 50 freestyle relay - 29th place with a time of 21.91 - Kyle Seward
  • 100 freestyle relay - 26th place with a time of 48.19 - Kyle Seward.

Boys basketball

The Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team ended their season with a win over the Hammond Central Wolves Friday 42-40. The Vikings overcame the self-induced adversity of 28 turnovers by playing tough defense and getting some key rebounds in crunch time. Caden Crowell had 9 points and 6 rebounds and Michael Ridley had 6 points and 7 boards. Tyler Verschure had 3 steals. The team finished 15-7 and 2nd in the DAC. Coach Lieske is very thankful for their tenacity and competitive drive all year long.

Varsity ended their regular season with a tough fought win over Hammond Central. The Vikings were behind by 10 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. The Vikings ended up winning the game 67-59. Seniors Blaine Dalton, Michael Flynn and Breece Walls led their team to the victory. Blaine ended with 16 points and 5 rebounds, Breece had 15 points and 8 assists, and Michael Flynn had 13 points and 3 rebounds. The Vikings closed out the season 19-4, placing second in the DAC.

Boys basketball sectionals

The Vikings played their last game for the 2021-2022 Season at Portage against the Merrillville Pirates. Valpo was defeated 37-45 in their first Sectional game. The Vikings played their hearts out but unfortunately the Pirates prevailed. Mason Jones led the team in points and rebounds with 15 and 11. He was followed by Breece Walls with 7 points and 6 assists. Michael Flynn put up 5 points. Great Season Vikings!

Vikettes

Congratulations to the Vikettes, they placed 3rd at the IHSDT Regional Competition! This is the Vikettes first time competing and they are going to STATE! Great Job!

Cheerleading

Congratulations to the Cheer team! #1 at he Hoosier Open!

Track & Field

Indoor track season kicked off this week with meets for both the boys and girls taking place in the field house. Although it was a scrimmage it was good to see spring sports kicking off!
