The Valparaiso High School baseball team defeated the state's 5th-ranked Portage Indians on Wednesday 13-2 at Portage High School.
The Vikings' Andrew Weston threw a complete game, allowing 5 hits, two runs and two walks while striking out two. The offense buoyed Valpo late in the game, scoring 12 of their 13 runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
CJ Gear led the way on offense with a 2-for-3 performance that included a home run and two RBI. Sam Miller, Ethan Lehnen and Jered Folk also recorded multi-hit games for Valpo.
The Vikings' JV team also won 14-12. The freshman team fell to Lake Central 5-4 on Wednesday.
