Valpo Velvet Ice Cream has been a staple in Valparaiso for over 62 years. They recently have expanded their menu to offer lunch items but are still well known for their delicious, gourmet ice cream. Several retailers host Valpo Velvet, including Evelyn Bay Coffee Company and Town & Country, giving their product easy availability to the entire community. 
Wal-mart used to stock Valpo Velvet Ice Cream as well. Since Wal-mart offers a variety of products and services, many customers do their “bulk” shopping at this institution, leading to strong sales for Valpo Velvet. However, after months of trying to keep Valpo Velvet in Wal-mart, fighting them as they moved the product and put it in the back room, eventually they were told that Corporate did not want to keep the ice cream in store, despite their mantra of ensuring “the products on our shelves meet the unique needs and wants of every community we serve,” and “maintaining a diverse mix is the key to our success.” To read more about this issue, click here.
