Walk to Prevent Suicide on April 14, 2012

Out-of-the-DarknessThe Purdue North Central Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a fundraising walk supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. There are more than 30 Out of the Darkness Campus Walks taking place throughout the U.S. this spring. Funds will support vital research, education, advocacy, suicide prevention initiatives and programs to support those impacted by suicide.

It is estimated that each year, nearly 1 million Americans make a suicide attempt, more than 34,000 die by suicide, and more than 20 million suffer from depression. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults and the second leading cause of death for college students.

The walk will be held at Purdue North Central, 1401 S. US 421 in Westville. 9:00 is walker registration and the walk begins at 10:00 am.

The walk is sponsored by Porter-Starke, Choices Counseling Services, Hungry Howies, Mels Detail, Buffalo Wild Wings, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
