Washington Township Middle School Science Academic Team wins Class 4 State Championship

Washington_Township_Middle_School_Science-2018Washington Township Middle School Academic Teams had an outstanding performance at the LaPorte Area Competition of the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division. Team Senator won three subject areas (Science, Social Studies, Interdisciplinary) in Class 4 with two of the subject areas (Science, Social Studies) defeating all schools in Classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 competing at LaPorte. After comparing scores throughout the state, Washington Township Middle School was named the 2018 Class 4 Science State Champions.

Team Senator’s Science Team, made up of Brendan Gschwind, Sierra Richardson, Ranger Scott and Jacob Zosso won with a score of 24 out of 25 questions. This was Washington Township’s second consecutive Science Class 4 State Championship and the sixth Science State Championship in school history. Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have combined to win 14 State Championships in 14 years of competition. Team Senator’s Social Studies team of Gunner Casbon, Brendan Gschwind, and Shepard Scott was named Social Studies Class 4 State Runner-Up with a score of 24 out of 25 questions. The Interdisciplinary Team, consisting of Evan Bell, Kaden Grubb, Brendan Gschwind, and Ranger Scott defeated all of the Class 4 schools at LaPorte and placed 3rd in the state in Class 4. Washington Township was also named an Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division Class 4 Top Ten school for the 14th consecutive year. The theme for this year’s contest was the “World War I”.
