WTMS Science Wins State Championship; English & Social Studies Runner Up At Academic Super Bowl Competition

Washington Township Middle School Academic Teams had an outstanding performance at the Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division competition with Team Senator named the 2024 Class 4 Science State Champions and English and Social Studies Teams named State Runner-Ups.

The WTMS Science Team, made up of Addison Peres (captain), Jacob Barker and Kirk VarnHagen won the Class 4 State title with 22 out of 25 questions answered correctly, which was the highest science score in all four classes. This was WTMS’s state leading tenth Science State championship in school history and fourth consecutive.

The WTMS English Team, made up of Stephen Cannon (captain), Karson Kish and Liam Swiatkowski was named Class 4 English Runner-Up with a score of 22 out of 25 questions answered correctly. The Social Studies Team, consisting of Addison Peres (captain), McKenna Bouchee, and Karson Kish was named Class Social Studies Runner-Up with a score of 18 out of 25 questions answered correctly. Washington Township Middle School’s Academic Teams have combined to win a leading 24 Academic State Championships in 19 years of competition which is the most of any middle school in Porter County and is first of all middle schools in the state.

Washington Township was also named an Indiana Academic Super Bowl-Jr. Division Class 4 Top Ten school for a 19th consecutive year. “The End of the Second Millennium: The 1980s and 1990s” was the theme for this year’s academic competitions.
