Summer is in full swing, and school is on the minds of everyone as families prepare for the unique changes that could greet them when they return to school in August. If families haven't started already, school supply shopping is just around the corner. As stores begin stocking their shelves with school supplies, it could mean only one thing: it's time for the annual Kankakee Valley REMC school supply drive!
At Kankakee Valley REMC, it's a well-known fact that supporting our community starts with supporting our schools. That's why KV REMC is excited to announce the return of their eighth annual Pack-a-Backpack school supplies drive! Kankakee Valley REMC is asking local families to donate new school supplies to this worthy cause. You can find a comprehensive supply list at kvremc.com, but a few items include backpacks, #2 pencils, glue sticks, colored pencils, markers, glue, rulers, headphones, loose comprehensive rule paper, and pencil boxes.
School supplies are essential for learning in the classroom. Unfortunately, finding a way to pay for the necessary supplies can be a struggle for many families. "We all can remember back to at least one of our first days of school. The excitement of opening up a new box of crayons or carrying the new backpack for the first time makes the first day jitters a little easier. Through this project, we can be an outlet to support families in need and give our youth the tools to start the school year off right," stated Amanda Steeb, director of marketing & communications for Kankakee Valley REMC.
Kankakee Valley REMC encourages the community to consider picking up extra school supplies for those less fortunate the next time you're out shopping. You can drop off your donations at the Kankakee Valley REMC headquarters in Wanatah. A collection box is in the lobby from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. School supplies will be accepted until July 23. For a complete list of needed supplies, visit kvremc.com.
