Methodist Hospitals to hold Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Seminar

Who:  GERD (acid reflux) is a chronic condition affecting almost 60 million Americans.  It is a digestive disorder in which stomach acid or bile irritates the food pipe lining. If you suffer from acid indigestion or heartburn caused by GERD more than twice a week you may want to talk attend this seminar.

What:  Dr. Peter Mavrelis, Gastroenterologist at Methodist Hospitals, to hold a GERD seminar on the latest treatments, including the TIF procedure.  Dr. Mavrelis is the senior author of a study published in Surgical Innovation.  He and other physicians at Methodist Hospitals participated in a study confirming the effectiveness of combining Hiatal Hernia Repair and TIF in providing symptom control for GERD patients.

Why:  Gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, is a very common disorder. Gastroesophageal refers to the stomach and the esophagus. Reflux refers to the back-flow of acidic or non-acidic stomach contents into the esophagus. There is no known single cause of GERD. It occurs when the esophageal defences are overwhelmed by stomach contents that reflux into the esophagus.
