Valpo girls basketball summer instructional league 2019

Event Information

League Information:

Sessions will be held at two seperate locations due to construction and Fall Sports Practices.  Please review the schedule below for dates and locations:

• Tuesday, July 9th: 6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE), 
• For those who do not preregister, doors will open at 5:00 pm this night for anyone wanting to register in person.
• Thursday, July 11th: 6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)
• Tuesday, July 16th: 6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)
• Wednesday, July 17th: 6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)
• Tuesday, July 23rd: 6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)
• Thursday, July 25th: 6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)
• Tuesday, July 30th:  6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)
• Thursday, Aug. 1st:  6:00-7:30pm (VHS FIELD HOUSE)

  • Sessions will run from 6:00pm-7:30pm nightly.
  • No games will be played at our first 2 sessions.  We will be practicing the entire 1 1/2 hours those nights.
  • Members of the Valparaiso High School Girls Basketball Coaching Staff and players from the Valparaiso High School Girls Basketball Program will be the instructors, coaches, and officials.
  • Parents may stay and watch both the practice sessions and games if they wish to do so.  You may also drop off your daughter and leave if you wish as well.  However, we ask that you be back to pick players up promptly by 7:30pm.  For safety purposes, we ask that all players be picked up in the gym.
  • Cost of the League is $100.00 for 8 sessions.  A one time purchase of a reversible jersey for $25.00 is also required.  This jersey can be used for any events that we have throughout the year at the elementary and middle school levels.  You will purchase that separately using the Blythe's online store below.  If you have already purchased a jersey in previous years, that can be used again.
• Games:

  • We may have a mixture of age groups on each team but will work to put players at the level that they can handle best.
  • Depending on the number of participants, their skill level, and size, we will have a few different formats for games:  3 on 3, 4 on 4, or 5 on 5.  The offensive and defensive skills that we will be teaching will be conducive to all of these formats.  
  • Game emphasis will be more on instruction than winning and losing.
  • Players will be taught the vocabulary of the game, parts of the basketball court, and rules of the game.
  • From 6:00-6:50, Players will practice and receive instruction on the offensive and defensive skills associated with the game of basketball.  Players will also be taught the rules of the game and the parts of the basketball court. 
  • From 7:00-7:30pm players will play a game that will consist of one of the following formats:  3 on 3, 4 on 4, or 5 on 5.
• Uniforms:

  • All players will need to purchase a MANDATORY reversible from Blythe's Online Store for the league.  The link to purchase this is below.  These will be delivered to us the second week of the league.  IF PLAYERS WERE IN THE INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE IN PREVIOUS YEARS, YOU MAY USE THE SAME JERSEY AND DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE UNLESS YOU WISH TO DO SO.
  • Players will need to provide their own shorts and gym shoes.  The online store offers OPTIONAL items for you to purchase for your daughter if you are interested when you go to purchase the reversible jersey.  This jersey will be used each year and for all of the other leagues and events that we run throughout the year for our elementary and middle school programs.
  • You will not need to purchase another jersey next year unless you wish to do so because of a size change.  Reversibles are offered in both youth and adult sizes.  It lists both options as mandatory on the online form.  However, you only need to purchase one.

Online registration will be open until 11:59pm the night of July 9th.  Reversible jerseys must be purchased by this deadline for the league.  Anyone playing in the league in the past does not need to buy a new reversible and may use the one they previously purchased.
