The VIC’s Fourth Friday Series Presents Syria: A Year of Protest

Dr-Yaser-AlobeidThis upcoming Friday, March 23rd at 7 pm, The Valparaiso International Center (The VIC) will be exploring the conflict in Syria and its consequences both abroad and at home. Dr. Yaser Alobeid will lead a panel discussion with others from Syria who will provide their unique perspective on the history and future of the movement.

Dr. Alobeid was born in Izraa, a suburb of Deraa, Syria. Deraa is where the Syrian revolution began a little over a year ago, when Alobeid lost several friends and relatives. In 1997 he came to the U.S. In 2004 he completed his medical residency in Family Medicine at Methodist Hospitals in Gary. He currently has two offices, one in Merrillville and one in Valparaiso.

The Valparaiso International Center is an independent nonprofit organization that is located in downtown Valparaiso, yet serves all of Northwest Indiana.
