Back to the Basics: Testing the Blackberry Curve 9370

After testing several Android-based smartphones and tablets over the past year or so, I had the option of testing out one of the new Blackberry Curve 9370 smartphones.

Having been a longtime-Blackberry Curve user before I switched over to the Motorola Droid Pro 2, I was looking forward to seeing what has changed with the Blackberry and what has stayed the same.

Going back to the Blackberry took a little while to get used to. I’ve used so many touch-screens over the past year and a half that going back to the “Blackberry Ball” (actually called the “track ball”), was a little disorienting. The Blackberry 7 operating system, though, made the transition easy. If you have ever used this type of phone previously, then you will be fairly familiar with how it works.

One thing I loved about the Blackberry remains the email. My biggest aversion to switching away form the Curve was that the email system is awesome. It’s idiot-proof, it’s fast, simple, and never caused an issue for me. Twitter, too seems like the perfect program for the Blackberry. Any quick, text-based programs are easy to use because the Blackberry’s operating system seems to be optimized for those kinds of applications.

Some other cool features on the Blackberry Curve 9370:

  • Battery live is great (5.5 hours of talk time, up to 12.5 days of stand-by time)
  • Integreated GPS
  • 5 mega-pixel camera with Face Detection and Image stabilization

While the web browser seems ancient compared to its counterparts on the Android and iOS systems, the phone remains great for folks who are using their smart phones to stay in touch with their contacts through email, Facebook, and Twitter. If you’re looking for a smartphone that is great for business, has basic functionality with a great ease-of-use, I strongly recommend the Blackberry Curve 9370.
