Late Rally Puts Indians Over the Vikings 3-2 on the Diamond

In a matchup of two of Northwest Indiana’s top baseball teams, Valparaiso fell to Portage 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Portage High School.

In what turned out to be a pitcher’s dual, the Indians’ Kris Springman was able to outlast Devin Bafia, who came in relief in the first inning to finish out the game for Valpo, recording six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on four hits.

The Vikings went ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth when Jake Miller scored on a Joe Gallinatti single, but the Indians rallied in the bottom of the sixth to score two, sealing the win for Portage.
