NWI Region Runners' Hosting Free Fun Run at Imagination Glen
NWI Region Runners’ are set to host another “FREE” fun run after hosting a successful March fun run. There will be giveaways, hot dogs, hot dog buns, condiments, and water. Everyone is asked to bring a dish or treat to share along with at least one nonperishable food item for donation to the Portage Food Pantry. In March, an entire pickup truck bed was filled; this fun run aims to beat that! The Calumet Region Strider’s will be on hand to show their support for the NWI Region Runners and if you are looking to join the Strider’s running club or want to see what the Strider’s is all about.
2nd Annual Run for PAWS
Enjoy a day of fun and fitness while supporting Lakeshore PAWS at the organization’s second annual Run for PAWS held on June 24, 2012, at Sunset Hill Park, 775 Meridian Road, in Valparaiso. This year’s event will feature a 5K Cross Country Invitational, the Second Annual 2K Dog Walk, various pet vendors, a great band, and adorable adoptable pets from Lakeshore PAWS.
Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce: Hometown Festival Days!
Friday June 22nd through Sunday, June 24th is The Taste of the Region and Arts & Crafts Festival. Friday & Saturday hours are 11am-10pm and Sunday hours are 11am- 6pm. The entire Crown Point Square will be closed to traffic to make room for many of the area’s finest restaurants, food vendors and arts & crafts exhibitors. Friday night the popular band Nawty will be the musical entertainment and Saturday evening The Muddsharks will be on hand to keep the Festival lively. Friday, June 22nd the historic Marriage Mill Celebration will unite one lucky couple in matrimony. After the ceremony, couples can join together to renew their marriage vows. The wedding takes place at 6:00pm on the east stairs of the Old Lake County Courthouse.
Free Concert in the Park
The Summer Rhapsody Music Festival presents 10 free concerts throughout the summer. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnics and outside food to the concerts, excluding the 2 special event concerts. On June 23, the Great Lakes Navy Band will perform in the park at 7 pm.
Silent Auction, Evening Fun Planned for Family House Benefit
Sox tickets, sports memorabilia, an electric log splitter, watercolor paintings and wicker rocking chairs are just a few of the many items guests will have the opportunity to bid on during a silent auction at the June 22, 2012 fundraiser to benefit Family House. The benefit, which will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at Strongbow Inn, 2405 U.S.30, also features a beer tasting, corn hole tournament and tempting Strongbow Inn hors d’oeuvres for an evening of food and fun. All proceeds from this fundraiser will assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the Family House facility.
Pig Roast to Benefit Memorial Fund
On Saturday, June 23rd, 2012, the 219 Bar & Grill in Lake Station is hosting a Pig Roast at noon. For a $5.00 donation to the Daniel Chavez Memorial Fund, you can have either roast pig, pulled pork sandwich, hamburger or hot dog with your 1st draft. You also get a choice of your favorite side dish to complete your meal. Bean Bag Tournaments, raffles, and more will help support the scholarship that is awarded each year by the memorial fund which is named for SFC Daniel Chavez, a Portage resident originally from Lake Station.
Two Man Accuracy Scramble
This Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 at 10 a.m., sign up for the Robbinhurst Golf Club's Two Man Accuracy Scramble! This event will consist of two-man scramble teams. Scoring will be a Stableford points system, with an emphasis on accuracy. For example, each foursome will be given a 15' length of string. A ball within this distance will be awarded 10 points! Payout will be 100%!
2nd Annual Summer Fest
Heartland Christian Center is hosting their 2nd Annual Summer Fest beginning Friday, June 22nd, 2012 with a special outdoor screening of the movie "Grace Card" in our new pavilion. Then on Saturday, June 23rd we will be having Michael Joiner, a local comedian who starred in the movie, "Grace Card", join us at 6pm. Finally on Sunday, June 24th we will be having our annual Car & Bike Show.
Fun Event to Help House the Homeless
This Friday, June 22nd is a tour of the Housing Opportunities facility followed by a Premier Design jewelry show and personal style session. The theme is Jeans & Jewels – wear your favorite denim! Proceeds from this show will go towards housing for the homeless!
Nelson’s Port-a-Pit Chicken Fundraiser to Benefit OE
Opportunity Enterprises will be hosting a Nelson’s Port-a-pit chicken fundraiser on Friday, June 22, from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm. Sales will take place in two locations – Opportunity Enterprises, 2801 Evans Avenue in Valparaiso, and Kmart at the corner of Calumet Avenue and Vale Park Road in Valparaiso. A half-chicken will be sold for $6.00, and a half chicken with Pit-Tatoes will be $9.00.
