Jackson Elementary School celebrated Amelia Bedelia's 50th birthday by reading books about her character, performing readers theater plays, coloring pictures and learning about the homophones and idioms that make her character so funny. She mixes up the meanings of words and takes directions literally. When she is told to draw the drapes to keep the carpet from fading, she draws a picture of the drapes.
Media Secretary Janet Klinedinst brought the character to life for students by dressing up as Amelia. The kids loved celebrating and singing Happy Birthday to her.
