NW Indiana Mayors to Discuss Economic Development

Purdue University North Central and the PNC Center for Economic Development and Research (CEDaR) will present an economic development workshop, "What is the Mayor's Role in Economic Development?" on Wednesday, Feb. 3 in the Library-Student-Faculty building Assembly Hall, Room 02. The event is free and open to the public and will be of interest to all individuals interested in economic development.

The evening will open at 6:30 p.m. with dessert and the presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Dr. Alan Krabbenhoft, dean of the PNC College of Business will moderate a panel discussion of area mayors that will include Mayor Charles Oberlie, Michigan City; Mayor Kathy Chroback, LaPorte and Mayor Olga Velazquez, Portage. Valparaiso Economic Development Corporation Director Matt Murphy will represent Valparaiso.

Panelists will discuss their roles in such matters as tax abatement, use of consultants, annexations, industrial park development and other issues related to economic development
