Vikings Cross Coutnry Teams Top Portage and Merrillville in 3-Way Meet

vhsboysandgirlscrosscountry9-4-12-(4)Valparaiso boys & girls cross country teams remain undefeated with both teams winning the triangular meet against Portage and Merrillville High Schools. The meet was held on the Portage home course at Woodland Park in Portage, September 4, 2012.

Coach “Boomer” Nellessen head coach of the girls’ team commented, “We are just trying to get healthy this season. Allison [Mundel] is just coming back from having pneumonia and Sydney Nosbush is still out sick and she is our #3 runner. Our goal today was to pull off the win and stay undefeated in the conference and this is a conference meet running against Portage and Merrillville."

"We gained the win with Ellie Joll placing 2nd, Allison Mundel taking 4th and the 5th slot went to Aurora Bonner."

Coach Crague of the boys’ team was proud of the team and the win, stating, “Our guys went out there again tonight and executed our game plan using our pack running strategy. We at one time during the race had all top 12 on our team in the top 15 places. We ended up winning the top five places."

He continued, "Our goal as always is to run together as a pack and stress the importance of running together as a team and tonight they did that. Tonight the team was looking strong, running relaxed and controlled and running together in a huge group out there.”

Though it was hot and humid for the race, Valpo didn’t let that effect their running ability or their goals of winning the meet and remaining undefeated.
